The NHR 9410-72 Regenerative Grid Simulator is a four-quadrant AC/DC source designed for testing grid-tied products like PV inverters. The device supports single or three-phase setups and has a selectable 1, 2, or 3-phase AC output, with a maximum power output of 72 kW. With its adjustable frequency ranges ranging from 30 to 100 Hz (and an optional extension to 880 Hz), this machine is ideal for a broad range of grid simulation applications.
The 9410 is a bi-directional system that can run in source and regenerative (sink) modes. Instead of releasing energy as heat when in sink mode, it effectively restores power to the facility grid. It can maintain full real power over a range of voltages, even in the presence of reactive power or current harmonics, because to its high reactive power capacity of up to 189 kVA. Compared to traditional grid simulators that experience power drops in reactive conditions, this capacity expands its usage to a larger range of items.
One important characteristic of the device is its capacity to simulate electrical disruptions. A graphical wave editor allows users to construct non-sinusoidal waveforms and transient anomalies.
